Please read our submission guidelines carefully before submitting.
RAW Journal of Arts is open to submissions year round on a rolling basis. There is no set deadline per issue. Once we have accepted enough pieces for an issue, future submissions will roll over for possible inclusion in the next issue. We respond to all submissions and aim to keep our response time as short as possible. All submissions need to include a cover letter and a brief third-person bio; you may also include links to your social media accounts and/or website with your bio.
We ask for First North American Rights and First Electronic Rights to publish. Individual rights revert to the artist upon publication. We kindly ask that you credit RAW Journal of Arts as the place your work first appeared. RAW Journal of Arts retains the right to archive your work on our website as well as to publish it in print or an anthology. All submissions must be in English. Please note that upon acceptance, your submission may be edited for spelling and grammar.
RAW Journal of Arts happily considers simultaneous submissions, but please mention this in your cover letter, and notify us immediately by email if your work is accepted elsewhere.
All work must be your own.
Our guidelines are subject to change. We suggest reviewing them prior to submitting.
Please see our genre-specific guidelines below.
To help your work reach a larger audience, your work may be promoted on our social media outlets or included in a print publication or anthology.
What we are looking for:
We want to read pieces that surprise us, make us think, make us wish that we had written them. We want writing that grabs us, conveys a unique perspective… is raw, honest, intellectual, imaginative.
We want to see the concrete and the abstract. We want writing that elicits emotional reactions. Works that manipulate the written word in unexpected ways.
If you want to submit something but you're unsure if we'll like it, please submit it! We often don't know what exactly we are looking for in a particular issue until we read it.
We want to see works that are nothing like what we’ve ever read before, that describe or show something in a way different than anything else.
So, be different, be unusual, be weird, be unique! Be a little bit edgy and twisted; be experimental and innovative. Be elegant or jagged or somewhere in between.
Show us the human condition. Show us the world. The past. The present. The future. Show us you. Show us anything! Show us your mastery of language. Show us your craft, your ideas, pieces that leave us thinking long after we’ve finished reading them and pieces that we want to read over and over again. We want to see your creativity.
Photography & Artwork
We want to see all types of photography and artwork. All genres and mediums.
Send us your landscapes, macro, edits, nature, interiors, food, etc. We want to see it all! Show us your unique style and your love for photography.
Send us artwork of all mediums. We want to see all types of art, whether it be watercolors, alcohol ink, acrylic, composites, graphics, sketches, illustrations, etc. Show us how you express yourself. Show us your passion for art.
Let us get enwrapped in the world you are sharing with us! Bring us into your world through your photography and/or artwork.
Please send submissions of up to 6 poems in the body of the email or as a Word .doc or .docx attachment.
Please do not include your name in the manuscript. We take efforts to read blindly.
If you are sending in visual poetry, please include it as an attachment and send it as a .jpg or .png and as high-quality as possible.
Sending multiple works in this category is encouraged. We also encourage you to submit to our other categories in addition to poetry.
All poems should be in one file but with each poem on a separate page.
We do not accept reprints or previously published work in this category. * We will occasionally accept work that has been previously posted to your Instagram page as long as you state this in your cover letter *
Flash Fiction/Short stories
Please send one piece (up to 1,500 words). If your story goes over a little bit, that is fine. Please include the word count either in the document or in your cover letter.
If you have a longer story you'd like to submit, you may send it. But please note that shorter stories will be read first.
We do not accept simultaneous submissions or previously published work in this category.
Please send as a single-spaced Word document (.doc or .docx) with minimal formatting.
Please send submissions of up to 8 photographs or pieces of art. Sending multiple works in this category is encouraged. We also invite you to submit to other categories in addition to photography/art.
Please make all image submissions .jpg or .png and as high-quality as possible. Please send them as an attachment in your email. In order to preserve the high-quality of your submission, you may send your photography and/or artwork in multiple emails if needed. The subject of your email should read: ART/PHOTOGRAPHY SUBMISSION: (your last name)
Please include a brief third-person bio along with your submission. You may include any links to social media and/or websites along with your bio.
In this category, we accept previously published work if it was published to your Instagram or Facebook, however, please let us know if this is the case in your cover letter; we do not accept reprints or previously published work published elsewhere.
humanities & stories
In this category, we are looking to raise awareness of various causes, illnesses, disorders, journeys, and battles, as well as to share stories about everyday heroes, etc.
Your email subject should read: HUMANITIES: (your last name)
We do not accept simultaneous submissions in this category. We do accept previously published work in this category.
If you have written an article and it is posted on your social media or your blog, and you would like us to consider it for publication in RAW Journal of Arts, please include the link to your post in your email.
